Kennetcook, Hants County, Nova Scotia is a picturesque, historic rural community which was first settled in the mid 1700 by disbanded soldiers of the 84th Emigrants Regiment, also known as The 84th Regiment of Foot. In years past the community was active as a regional hub for the surrounding communities with the road, river and railway systems intersecting. Farming and lumbering employed many of the local population. In recent years, with increasing urbanization and development focused in other areas of the county, the economic base has dwindled to a handful of retail and service based businesses. The potential for increased economic activity in certain specialty areas such as cultural tourism and related activities is believed to be significant.Kennetcook was the site of the last wooden covered bridge in Nova Scotia. The bridge was almost 100 years old when it was removed in the early 1960s . The community has a number of original buildings still standing, many of which are over 100 years old. These include the one room school, (with later addition) the former hotel, blacksmith Shop, general store and post office. These buildings vary in condition from excellent to poor. Collectively these properties form a cohesive village centre adjacent to the site of the former covered bridge. The community church (visible for miles around) overlooks the village centre from its site on the hill.
