Kennetcook is a small hamlet located between Windsor and Truro in an area known as the Noel Shore. At first glance, it seems merely a collection of houses and a few stores at the junction of two highways and the Kennetcook
River. Dig a little deeper and you will discover a warm and friendly community with charm and a heart.
Kennetcook is a half hour from any major community with the nearest medical clinic and doctor minutes away in Noel. This has forced the community to become self reliant and resourceful. Following a major fire which demolished the country store/community hall in 1973,
the community formed a volunteer fire department. The last twenty four years have seen this group of dedicated volunteers face house fires,
forest and grass fires and vehicle accidents.
The fire department has grown from one hose trailer behind a pickup truck to three fire trucks and an emergency vehicle. A fire hall was built in 1973 by the community to house this equipment. They have kept up with the present trend of responding not only to fires but
increasingly to medical emergencies and accidents. Therefore they now carry the 'Jaws of Life' and oxygen. The community has come to rely upon the Kennetcook Fire Department.
In 1995 the original fire hall was expanded to include an ambulance bay and a
community hall. The community of Kennetcook finally has its own meeting place for various events such as reunions, weddings, brunches, card parties, etc.
Many dedicated people provided labour as well as financial support toward the construction and completion of the new Kennetcook Fire Hall/Community Center.
Numerous fund raising events as well as a highly supported TV bingo allowed the
hall mortgage to be paid off in just under three years.
